I agree. I ordered an assassin 420 TD last week for a buddy who was away when it came on sale. That thing is a beast. Easily 2-3 pounds heavier than my Matrix 380 xtra. I like some of the features on it, the new trigger, adjustable stock for warmer and colder temps when you may be bundled up more, and the cocking mechanism. Not a fan of the tact 100 scope on it and the weight is a deal breaker. The price on some of these new xbows doesn't really shock me. If I'm spending 2 grand or more on a rifle and scope to hunt 1 or 2 weeks out of the year, why wouldn't I spend the same on a xbow to hunt for 3 months.

Unfortunately for Ravin they are having issues getting the R500 built. They missed the launch date several times this year. Many rumors of part shortages up to issues with it staying together are all over the crossbow forums. They missed the bow hunting opening day window now so who really knows when they will ship....

420TD is a great bow. Takedown part of it is worthless really. It’s heavy it’s loud. But it works

Just sighted in the old Exocet the other day. 300 fps or so. Good to go! Consistent bullseyes at 30 yards.

I agree, there seems to be no end to the "speed" marketing on these newer crossbows, and the price is getting way out of reach for most.

Yep, I have an Exocet as well. Up to 330fps with optional Flemish string. Plenty accurate up to 40 yds is fine by me. Sure it would be nice to have a smaller and faster micro but I'm still happy enough to hunt deer with it and know I won't be tempted to take longer shots like some are with faster bows because they can hit targets at 60+ yards.

Manufacturers need to develop and differentiate themselves from their competitors and justify their increasingly expensive bows that are creeping north of $2k now. Personally I do not bite on the speed game. My old Exocet did a great job harvesting deer and last time I checked deer are not getting faster or have body armour so I do not get the need for a 500fps bow. Now I did upgrade to a Micro 335 but that was more for getting a smaller bow and the old non-Mag tip strings were getting hard to come by.

There are a few models out there like that now. Ten Point makes one at 505 fps. Seems unnecessary to me at normal bow distances, although in theory it could result in less chance of an animal moving before impact.

I like a light bow, but if someone wants to use these heavy hitters then I support it. Whatever gets more people in the game.

Honestly from what I've seen crossbows that get up that high in velocity are very unreliable and unpractical for hunting. Same nonsense as the Excal Twinstrike. Heavy, unreliable nonsense.

I have a ravin r10. Its very small, shoots 400fps and it is defiantly more accurate then any crossbow at moose camp this year, I shot a bull at 50 yards with a G5 dead meat expandable, Couldn't have asked for better results,
My Compound with probably never be taken out of the case at moose camp again.
More speed as long as it is accurate on big game like a moose is a good thing.
