Stand on Crown Land

I think it would be a lot less complicated if folk's just obeyed the laws which were set up to prevent some of the problems experienced by the OP.

27 (1) Except with the written consent of the Minister or an officer authorized by the Minister, no person shall deposit or cause to be deposited any material, substance or thing,

(a) on public lands, whether or not the lands are covered with water or ice; or

(b) on water or ice covering public lands. 2010, c. 16, Sched. 10, s. 4 (2).

I leave a couple ladder stands on crown land, I had same scenerio happen 3 years ago, left my info, no contact, one afternoon walk in and someone in my stand, ask him if he got his note and all he said was first come first served,
I said no problem, I walked away circled and came back and sat down on the ground against tree. He said your waiting here, yup I like this spot and no one was sitting against this tree.
Needless to say that was the last time I ever saw this person and was never an issue again.
During the gun season I will leave a note, treat it like its yours and it will be here next year for you to use again, and again never an issue

He was right. Having a stand there does not give you possession of the spot on public land. It sound like it was pretty mean of you to sit what sounds close to him to pressure him to leave. How would you like someone doing that to you? I would not be so easily discouraged by that tactic.

This is a controversial topic for sure,and i can see both sides of the coin.

I think hockeymjt did the right thing.Avoided confrontation,and made the point.

What would You do -if this happnes to your stand?
Remember-You earned the $ for the stand,you made the effort-and someone ignorantly just slaps his a...s down on it.

The guy could show respect, especially with the note available. Public land is far reaching and wide.

Definitely a controversial topic.

He definitely did the right thing to avoid a confrontation, but In my view he should have graciously left, as the other hunter was there first, and let the hunter enjoy his hunt, not sit what sounds close to him, to allegedly pressure him not to use his stand.

Yes it was his stand, but in that case if someone was hell bent on using that spot, or to make a point, they could put up their own stand next to his and no one could say boo. Would that be better?

No one wins by not being respectful and ethical on use of crown land. We need to share and it is first come first serve.

I think it makes a big difference and "ethical " changes based on the amount of crown in your hunting location.

There's a fair bit of crown around here and most folks and gangs are respectful of others traditional areas. There are a few squabbles and guys will push the lines a bit but it takes a real group of dingleberries to stomp into another guys area.

When the moose hunt is on, all bets are off , it's like a feeding frenzy when the truckers start blabbing about the bull they saw at km7 on the ticklesack road.

My thought are, if there's a stand there Tha has been used recently, stay away from it, don't be lazy and find your own spot.

I would tell the guy up in my stand that he can have the spot but I'm taking my treestand somewhere else. Make sure your name is written all over it to avoid confusion as to who owns what.

Oh geez that would be bad with an older guy like me having a weaker bladder and always peeing off my stand. It could even get worse if I have had my Scottish Porridge Oats followed by a Timmies coffee which always makes me very "argent".

Some rhetorical questions.......
Can I just put a 5 gallon pale with my name on it to claim my spot or does it have to be a tree stand. Or how about I put an a big X on the trees I want to sit up against, do they become my spots too.
Is it first person to claim the spot gets to keep it for how long they want (years/decades) or is it first person to show up that day gets to claim it for the day.
