Moose with yellow ear tag

This is from the current hunting regulations:

Ear Tags
If you harvest an animal that has an ear-tag with the phone number 1-866-514-2327, this animal was chemically immobilized in the past using veterinary drugs. Health Canada has established recommended guidelines for consumption. Please call the above number for specific information on whether Health Canada would recommend that the meat be consumed.

Nothing wrong with taking a calf, very tasty, I know some people are against it "declining the population," if that's the argument then eliminate cow tags and limit the age of the bulls. As far as the cow, like everyone is saying see if you can get that number, not sure the quality of your cameras. But the MNR can tell you when it was tagged/drugged, I believe they are more likely to tag during the winter, easier to locate/trap. So, if they did tag early this season or late last it would be safe to eat (6 months timeline). Good LUCK! Anything to fill the freezer is a successful season.

Update. Mnr said she would be good to eat. Been years since they tagged one.

And on a another note, just had amazing encounter with decent bull moose at 15 yards. Didnt spook him. If only i had bull tag..

If the moose is never killed, they will never be able to collect any info on it... It needs to be killed by someone so it can be called in.

I thought the main reason animals such as moose or bear are tagged is just so hunters will know that the animal was drugged, not like a duck or goose band which are called in after they are harvested for migration information as well as age??

It's not a radio collar, it's an ear tag? I doubt very much the moose will let you walk up to it to check it for info.

That tag is not on the ear!!!! There isn’t any studies regarding moose and tagging at this time. Most of the funding ended a few years back. The last study was cow moose were collared over by Kenora that lasted approx 10 years.
