E. Ont deer sudden deaths

I live around Kingston area I herd about this roomer of EHD being on Wolfe island from nurse at work her husband hunts on Wolfe island she was telling me that he had come across 5 dead deer caused by EHD so asked another buddy at work that hunts over there and roomer is 90 dead deer have been reported on the island caused by EHD and just last week have herd now Gan lake is having the same problem of EHD what fine strange is that the MNR has not put out report about this back in 2017 London Ontario area had EHD and it was all over the news and this situation seems a lot worse if the roomers are true now my buddy from work Bowed doe on the island October 1st he said the deer was acting in very strange manor his words acting very nervous twitching and constantly licking it self when I saw the photo of the deer other then looking dead too me colour of the coat was off and looked sick

Wowsers that’s not good news. A few deer hunting groups I’m in on Facebook have a lot of Americans. They have been posting pictures about finding many dead deer every time they walk their properties.

Not trying to be insensitive but deer populations in the US are insanely high.. no wonder disease is striking them and ultimately killing them off. I'm sure high population densities are helping spread various diseases. Every time I drive down to see family (dozens of times over the past few decades), I see so many roadkill deer, it's unbelievable...

To myself, it just strikes me as very strange that we had over 100 deer deaths in a confined area over just a few days and nothing official was said about it for over a month.
With deer season already in progress it makes you wonder that MNR warnings were not issued, at least until a non-transmittable (to humans) cause of death could be confirmed.
If it were something else disease could already have been transferred to humans.
I wonder if big money (read American) hunt camps in the area were a factor in official decisions being made?
I know I personally would have had 2nd thoughts about feeding children fresh venison harvested from the area until more info came out.

It'll be interesting next week when the Orange Army heads into the bush how many will find deer who may have died from EHD. It's probably more widespread than we know.

Does make you wonder what will happen, if your camp is in an area where there's EHD, will you feel safe to harvest deerm ?

This EHD situation is very concerning as it has the potential to reoccur and expand. Additionally, these dead deer don’t get replaced overnight so there could be herd population implications if this worsens. EHD is nasty on the deer population!

I'm sure there was a very good idea of what was going on, but it takes time to get confirmations on these things.
I think your overthinking the issue

Hopefully the spread is minimal if it becomes to much of a problem it will definitely make the tags less available for next year.
