But unlike the sawyers which is scentless, the Ultra has a strong citronella scent to it and is meant for horses. I tried it and couldn't stand the smell. Took me more than 10 washes to get it out of my clothes. Be warned!

Sawyers permethrin works really well, I don’t have a clue how you get it in Canada now these days.
Other than that I either use 30% deet on skin and clothing , or 20% picardin. I found in the napanee area at our camp that the ticks were fine all this year up until the fall… now they are currently worse than I’ve ever seen. Pulled around 80 off the dog pheasant and duck hunting one weekend and another 15-20 that were biting. The dog is on a tick med that kills them when they bite , but it’s still a huge sore. We also douse her in bug spray.
Also my girlfriend got Lyme disease and co-infections at one point and it messed her up for almost 2 yeArs. It took treatments from out of country to get her back on track.
I have been using Ultra Shield for 5 years now without ever picking up a single tick!
I spray my 2-piece camo rainsuit and all my other gear w it outside, then let everything air out outside after for 3-4 hours. I then bag the suit in a plastic bag and don't put the suit on till I get to my hunting site - then rebag it again as soon as I get back to my jeep. I repeat the spray after 4 weeks or so.
Airing it out after spraying gets rid of the citronella stink.
As for misquitoes, I always use a Thermocell!
I was at bush helping open the trails with the land owner this morning an got a tick off my yellow lab. Last year while my pup was tracking a wounded deer she ended up with over a dozen on her and it was this time of year as well.
Ticks should disappear once the frost hits.
I guess its what your tolerance for the citronella smell is. For me it is overpowering, and detracts from the fall smells of the woods that I really love. Not to mention, it gets in your vehicle seats and gear and as I said before it is hard to get it out. I also had my buddies that did not want to get near me because it was so strong. I don't know, maybe I got a bottle with extra citronella scent in it lol. Wish they made a scentless version of it, but then again, maybe its on purpose, to discourage human use of it.
I never bother with my clothing, I had one tick attached in all my life (20 years in ON and I've been to places where there were dozens of ticks on a dog after a walk). If you ever get a tick, remove ASAP and take one dose Doxycylcin, it's close to a 100% effective. I keep some on hand.
The best removal tool is tick key, the original, not cheap knock offs.
If you insist on treating the clothing, there's instructions on the net how to wash in Permethryn concentrate, I got some from Amazon years ago.
I use it to spray for ants, other bugs and spray coyotes before skinning.
For dogs I use Advantix, I get it from the US (much cheaper) and once in the sping and couple times in the fall. It only works 3 weeks for ticks, not one month!!! read the fine print. I had a bunch of ticks on dogs yesterday, so treated them again.
Here you go, all I know about tick control (almost).
