Wtg and good shot. It can be hard enough in the rain to track a deer, a dog can make all the difference so long as you don't wait too long. Bears are even worse, I really hesitate to hunt them in the rain.
Buddy's young beagle saved an 8 pointer for me after the buck spotted me lifting the rifle resulting in not the best shot and then swam across a small pond, I got lucky and found two little barely pink wet spots and then across an open field with no blood sign at all, 3 of us looked hard for a good while before making the call to bud. We kept at it and eventually pushed it enough that it started bleeding heavy an hour later and finally couldn't go any further. It was my first time using a dog to track and we still lost the trail a few times and had to go back and let the dog find it again. I have no idea how common it is but the only thing that dog was interested in was the testicles, he just kept at it trying to rip the sac off until Scott tied him off so we could dress the deer. He brought his two young lads with him too, so it was a great lesson for them on tracking deer and they came in quite handy actually standing to mark the odd very small drop of blood we found even though I did have flagging tape.
Congrats again.

Nice deer! Can't shoot them from the couch!

smitty you are correct about sent washing away. in my area only about 10% leave fall, so not a lot on the ground. I'm always worried getting a deer in rain. as it turned out it wouldn't have been hard to find anyway, but dog was quick to take my concern away and good practice for her. She got some liver on site and helped me eat the heart for supper. She also got an extra cup of food when we got home and treats. I bring her with me every time I go. I turn her loose even if I see the deer fall. Always a training day. she isn't 2 yet so it good practice. While dragging out with quad she ran beside it pulling on its ears and even barked a couple times. i thing she thought it was going to get away

I am so happy they let bow hunters use dogs for tracking now, so many deer were lost in the past with fatal hits.
Great looking deer

Bows/crossbows will kill animals as quick as a rifle....no question. What crossbow/broadhead did you use to harvest your
deer?
Congrats!!
