ofcourse - thats why its called a controlled hunt

I wasn’t aware that there were units where you can’t use a bow during the general firearms season. I don’t see the logic. It’s my understanding that the premise behind controlled hunt to ensure safety by limiting hunters. IMO archery hunting is probably safer than hunting with a firearm.
I could never understand this rule, In some areas, during controlled hunt 1 st week, where it is shotgun it is shotgun only, yet where it is rifle you can use a bow, and in 2nd week where it is black you can use a bow, dont get it shotgun what 80-100 yards max, rifle what 3-400 yards, is it not safer in the shorter distance?
Unfortunately, while there are may hard working, much needed and dedicated employees in MNR,somehow where decisisons are made, directions are taken, and some common sense and logic is to be used-there is not much of it .
Example-they asked the PUBLIC about moose regulation changes recommended by hunters ,few years back. Before this new system was put in place.
They polled hunters via the NET. There was a fainted -we will get back to you notion ,somewhere there .
I got my feedback in,and questioned -why while having public moose hunting consultation, they organized 80 % of those public meetings Nort Bay and up...yet 80% of the moose hunters are North Bay and south.....i think my question was logical. Why we are denied acess(or have to travel 400 km)to have a chance to have a face to face say in things ....
Never got a feedback.
Never mind that, but i still can not get my head around-why 20% of hunter population HAD opportunities to say /debate face to face ,and to the rest of us-all this was basically DENIED !
Speaking of another stupid rule, in WMU 65 archery is open for five days and closes only to re-open again on October 15 until december 31. WTF?
It is allowed during shotgun and ML though. Confusing as heck.
October 1 to October 4
October 15 to October 31
November 15 to November 28
December 6 to December 31
The logic is pretty simple....they want to control the number of hunters in the wood and my guess they realize that the orange army is the worst time for hunter accidents. Probably why they call it a controlled hunt. Most get almost 2 months and two weeks to bow hunt. Take your shotgun or ml that week or two. Controlled hunt.
I hunt a small private plot of land in 79, most of the plots in the surrounding area are small (around 10 acres), hence the neighbours are close, one has horses so out of respect I don't gun hunt. The total hunter numbers still be can be controlled by the lottery, I don't see a reason the controlled hunt should eliminate the use of bows.
