I've always thought instead of having a muzzle loader season. It should simply be switch to a black powder season. That would expand the guns selection, to guns originally designed use black powder cartridge, with the stipulation they must be used with black powder ammunition and not modern smokeless powder loads, nor jacketed bullets strictly cast bullets . That might even put the .303 Brit on the table, remove the 30-30, but allow the 44-40, 38-55 and the 45-70. As to firearm cleaning there is a host of new solvents to deal with black powder.
