Straight wall cartridge season.

I've always thought instead of having a muzzle loader season. It should simply be switch to a black powder season. That would expand the guns selection, to guns originally designed use black powder cartridge, with the stipulation they must be used with black powder ammunition and not modern smokeless powder loads, nor jacketed bullets strictly cast bullets . That might even put the .303 Brit on the table, remove the 30-30, but allow the 44-40, 38-55 and the 45-70. As to firearm cleaning there is a host of new solvents to deal with black powder.

I've actually written the ministry suggesting this. I think the easiest way to classify acceptable rifles is to literally have a list of acceptable calibers - example: 44-40. 44 rem. mag., 357 mag., 350 legend, surely someone in the ministry, or a panel including people that do can come up with a comprehensive list.

Agreed and it doesn't have to be difficult as many States already have a similar season with cartridges listed.

The goal would be to encourage new people to hunt in the controlled season with guns that they may already own or because as muzzleloaders have improved so much that performance wise we are at the level playing field with straight wall cartridges and big heavy bullets that limit trajectory..... From a deer harvesting perspective limiting to blackpowder and cast bullets would probably do the opposite of what these seasons are trying to achieve and then adding the 303 is a slippery slope for what these seasons seem to be based on.

I would like to have the total capacity limited, like it is with shotguns, a 14rd lever action or a dozen will destroy whole swamps populations.

Isn't that what tags are for ? The same argument get used by Muzzleloader hunters in 92b to keep shotguns out and it doesn't hold water if you shoot all your deer in one drive because you have extra rounds then that means you get done sooner and deer move in to take those spots in the ecosystem.

The ability to wipe out an entire area, every deer in that home range, is the concern.

There is a reason you are limited to 3 shots in a shotgun for migratory bird, it is so that you cannot fill all of your bag limits on a single flock, you have to spread out your shooting into multiple flocks.

The same reason as why we cannot shoot 2 turkeys in 1 day, it limits the impact on the local population.
