Yep, back in the 50's going to public school in grades 7&8 a buddy of mine and I use to take our 22's to school in the morning in the spring and the then go ground hog hunting after school, teacher used to make us stand the guns in the corner in the library which was a little room off by its self in a one room school house, some great memories from the good old days, I don't think we even knew what a hunting license was.
My dad grew up in Toronto in the 40's and before he bought a car he used to tell us that he would take the Bathurst St stretcar as far north as it would go then take a bus to the end of the line and go rabbit hunting from there if i find the old pictures of him and his friends I will post them. Can you imagine trying to do that these days.
Gotta find all the old hunting pictures my grand fathers and uncles from back in the day. They hunted all of Canada from Yukon to Nfld. My dad treasures the pictures so he doesn't let them out of his sight very much.

Her German Sheppard found it one day and she stopped it from killing it and brought it home. Raised it in the barn with the cattle, she said second year it had antlers it disappeared in the fall.Quote:

At 13 my friend next door on the farm left the Ottawa Valley to work for the summer loading potato trucks in Leamington. He worked all summer and on the way home he tranferred buses in Toronto. He had used his summer earnings to buy a pump action shotgun. A cop spotted the box and asked what was in it. My friend open the box, produced the shotgun and the cop had a good look. The only thing he asked was if he had any ammo to go with the gun. No ammo so the cop said well don't walk around with it and get on the bus to Pembroke as soon as you can. LOL.

This was the making of my Dad's duck hunting camp back in 1952 at Long Point , Lake Erie. The Township of South Walshingham had the Crown Marsh under it's care and would charge you 5 dollars for the hunting season for rights to a pond in the marsh. Five bucks was a lot of money back then but it was well worth it ! Today's rate is 20 bucks per hunter per day.
