Make you own bread - been doing it for years - very easy to do - then you know what your eating - it is so easy makes me wonder why everyone isn't doing it
I wonder sometimes if the school system and parents are corrupting our children by not teaching them proper culinary skills and basics. Most families are dual income, it’s the norm now. With this necessity of incomes comes a huge strain for free time. Healthy and nutritious family meals becomes less possible without the time to prepare. It’s far simpler to order something or microwave a pre-made dish from the frozen food aisle.
Schools too have been a huge let down in my opinion. We have abandoned the Home Economics class, and for what? At the very least that class was able to teach adolescents how to navigate the kitchen with its appliances and wares. It was also responsible for basic cooking instruction. Most of these skills are thrown to the side in favour of convenient methods of pre-packaged meals.
If we want to study the affects of poor health, look no further than the lower socio-economic population in society. With regular increases in price of healthy food options, it becomes more difficult to provide those options to your family. I hope there are community gardens in place for this part of the population.
Media is responsible for this unhealthy trend as well. It doesn’t take a genius to notice that most of the fast food commercials air on television right after school lets out. Or how about the big billboards advertising unbelievably cheap options. They don’t, however, advertise as boldly the ingredients or nutritional values.
I guess it’s a sign of the times. We are headed for an ever quickening paced environment and it doesn’t look like it’s letting up. In fact I have heard from friends that worked in South Korea, that over there some apartments have no kitchens. They have a communal kitchen area that sees little use. Instead, surrounding these condos are many restaurant options for convenience.
It’s discouraging to see the way this War on Food is playing out. You would think with all this technology at our fingertips we would be a smarter and healthier population, but I doubt that we are.
Yet new polls show that almost 60 percent of Canadians are struggling to buy food.
1 in 3 Canadian children go to school hungry.
Don't worry thought our government has your back. You don't have to own anything and be happy.
It's already starting the homeless and druggies are going to get new accommodations with a great views. Totally funded by the working people lol.

I think a lot of people have unrealistic perspective on "healthy eating" not everything has to be a gourmet meal. I grew up on a lot of bland meat and plain veggies. When you hear how a lot of people eat, It's like if you aren't eating a 5 star meal every night you might as well starve. When some people say they have a hard time affording groceries, I wouldn't be surprised if they just can't afford what's on the cooking shows they watch.
