Optimizing penetration on modern crossbows and compounds seems like an arbitrary affair. Most bows today will pass through a deer with just about any broadhead and still bury itself in the dirt. So extra blades don't hurt and sometimes they're the difference between catching an artery or not.
However on traditional gear a 2 blade head is an absolute must since you're shooting HALF the velocity of even the slowest Compound bows and crossbows.
Interesting point to share. I sighted in my Excalibur G340 with 150 gr bolt cutter broadheads when I bought it. I was a little suspect of the cutting diameter of the bolt cutters, very narrow, so I took species advise and bought G5 Striker V2 125 gr broadheads.
I figured there would be some tuning of the scope but to my surprise no adjustments needed. Just a tad left of the bullseye but not enough to worry about
I've had some new broadheads delivered this week. I must have been drinking when I ordered them! Expensive broadhead, expensive shipping and had to pay duty.
Think I'm looking at 50 + each. Ordered 6.
They are Iron Will 100 grain crossbow.
Will have them on the R10 for archery moose which is quickly coming up

It's the right call IMO. I have heard really good things about those broad heads; I'm drinking the Kool-Aid and switched to a heavy single bevel setup as well. If you add up the cost of your bow, gear, gas, tags etc. why cheap out on the broadhead when it's the one thing that actually makes contact and does the deed?Quote:

with the right setup pass throughs are the norm
I shoot a 508grn arrow at 279fps with 18% FOC and never have an issue with penetration
Absolutely. My forearms tend to be clean shaven throughout deer season as i'm constantly checking blade sharpness :D. Especially since I'm always practicing with broadheads and constantly touching them up. Even pushing your heads into the foam of your arrow quiver will have an impact of their edge.Quote:
