For anyone interested, you can get topo maps printed out at the World of Maps, on Wellington St., in Ottawa.
They have Crown Land topo maps, as well as Gov't of Canada NTS maps.

trimmer, I would agree with you that why I take both when I go out. GPS are great as long as they work, which I haven't had a problem yet, they get you back to exactly where you want to. Compass if you have to use it will get you back to somewhere close, but could be a couple miles up the road. I mainly use them of ice fishing. I always check my location with my compass when on the lake as you never know when you will lose sight of shore, but I still follow the GPS.

You can order online from that map store. Their online atlas makes it easy to find the map you want.
I got the NTS maps. Afterwards, I was told the crown land maps have more detail. And that grid, by the way, is different than the NTS one. The grid for crown land maps is the same one as BRMB Cottage Country Ontario.
