It's their way to perpetuate the problem, make "safe" drugs and employ more EM workers. Nobody stuck the needle in them or poured it down their throats, I have absolutely zero sympathy for them.

Well……par for the course these days isn’t it ? There have been so many stupid, outlandish things done these days that we are conditioned to shrug it off.
