When in ON could you get an elk/deer tag combination???

Up until 1974,big game licenses and tags were sold as combinations of Deer-Bear or Deer-Elk (Wapiti). Two plastic "zip tie" style seals came with each. After that season, someone at OMNRF thought it would be wise to split them up when the Elk herd population dropped to extirpation status from disease and seasons were cancelled. After that,Black Bear licenses and tags were sold as stand-alones. American hunters ate it up and still do to this day.
IMO, they should shut down the elk hunt until numbers rebound. The MNRF needs to get serious about managing elk and increasing the population. Too bad about CWD out west as there’s no way that more elk can be brought in from other provinces.
There’s a handful of elk where I deer hunt and I’ve gotten a few pics on my trail cams. There aren’t many around… probably less than a dozen and I’m surprised that they haven’t all died off or have been eaten by wolves.
They can shut it down all they want but that isn't going to stop the native harvest, even though they didn't help with anything getting the elk here
