There's lots of excellent scopes that will work beautifully with a full warranty for under $500. Spending "thousands" for a hunting scope isn't necessary,in the least, because 95% of the shots on big game is under 150 yds. Shots on varmint/predators are usually under 300yds.
years ago when they came in with the barrel length restrictions i took my ruger 44mag into the OPP and asked if it was legal, it had a red dot on it. They looked at it several of the officers than said that I should go to the RCMP office and ask, but don't tell them I was at their office. I went to the RCMP office and the officer there took the gun and said that the gun was fine but the red dot wasn't. I had to tell him that it wasn't a laser sight, several times before he believed my and figured it out for himself. So after about 40min in there I took the gun home and no one even measured the barrel, go figure. But if it had been a laser sight I would have been in trouble, but that was a long time ago. Oh and by the way it is legal lenght.
