We were at Rhinos in Bewdley a week ago and ran into a guy who had a clamshell on the ice off shore. He and a buddy came in for lunch. When they went to go back, the hut was long gone. It was really windy,but,they thought it was well anchored. Guess not. I haven't heard if they found it. That's an expensive piece of kit to have blow away.
I have both a small clam style shelter and 1-2 person small pop-up. With the clam style I don’t think there is a way to properly anchor it other than put some snow/slush around. But my main concern with the strong gusting wind was not blowing it away but mostly that wind will rip it apart rather sooner than later, especially with a clam style as the fabric is quite loose on the frame.
I went out yesterday, -20C in the morning and -10C at noon, sunny but calm. Interesting that The Weather Network predicted 15-17 km/h at noon while Windfinder and Wentusky both showed only 10-11. Seems that the last two were correct and the Weather Network scared me for nothing.
Fish did not cooperate however.
This! Use all of your stakes and guy ropes. When I stayed out overnight a couple of weeks ago, the wind blew all night and the hut didn’t shake one bit. It’s an Eskimo 650 and I think the heavier construction makes a big difference.Quote:
