Spoke with one of the MNR biologists yesterday and apparently that is one of the main release sites for the eastern couger restoration plan,it makes sense perfect habitat.The elk were brought in to ease pressure on local deer and moose populations.It would not suprise me if the small game populations have crashed as well I know the turkey population is increasing there and they eat most of the young of the year grouse.In my humble opinion don't even bother trying.

While there is a lot of Crown its hard to tell some of it apart from private or Corporate (Domtar). The road from Gilmor up to Weslemkoon is mostly Crown but the road west from Millbridge (Carson, Little and Big Burnt) is mostly private.
There are two hydro lines running east from 62 (Grimsthorpe and Lingham areas) that have a lot of crown, but again there are private areas along each. In most cases where you aren't welcome on the private areas they will put up signs letting you know.
The road into Domtar is gated and most of the hunt camps on their property are very possesive of their lands as Domtar is worried about lawsuits from trespassers if they get injured.
If you head north east from Gilmour you can drive right on thru to either MacArthur Mills or swing back over to #62 south of Bancroft. Dozens of stocked lakes in there...:fish:
There is also a bancroft area crownland map that I bought at Mountaoin Equipment Co-op that seems pretty good.
We have proparty up there and yes plenty of crown land, you have to watch because there is a lot of camps on crown that have been there for years. you can get a map from the MNR in Bancroft that has all the crown and private land on it . i got one there a few years back.
Not to sound rude, but most of the hunt camps are very possesive because we pay for the right to hunt the Domtar property. (Although the liability insurance is an issue as well.) As for the hydro lines, remember that hydro has an easement - the hydro lines are not public right of ways.Quote:
