I dont have a handgun permit or any experience with this. but weren't they stepping up random inspections of residences with restricted firearms and with more than 10 long guns, as a response to the long gun registry issues?
I would think that would be an arbitrary "just show up" to ensure proper storage and all of that....
just saying, maybe not worth the risk.

Do what ever you want just don't post about it on a public forum but the law says "approved ranges only"

Common sense says you can not tell the difference in sound between a .22lr rifle or pistol or 44mag pistol or rifle so who will know if you keep your yap shut?....I wouldn't want to get caught transporting with out an ATT though that would be bad news....

The last handgun hunting season I believe was in 1973 and it was only with the help of OFAH that the government banned handgun hunting......Which started the slippery slope of useless gun control we slid down over that last 37yrs.....When they banned hunting with handguns it gave the anti's the argument they use still to this day "no one needs handguns its not like you can hunt with them".......If handgun's were still legal to hunt with and were still non-restricted like in 1969 we would have none of the BS "we know whats best" nanny state firearms laws we deal with today thanks OFAH.

Now fast forward to today and the OFAH has realized they screwed up and divided their membership they lost huge amounts of members over that and have slowly started getting them back purely because of their stance on the long gun registry. If the OFAH was smart they would get on side with the hunting organizations out west and started pressing the government to allow ATT's to be issued for hunting purposes so the MNR can instate new hunting seasons specifically for handguns.

I don't own handguns specifically because I can't hunt with them rather spend money on guns I can take to the field. But if we got new hunting seasons for them I would be the first inline to buy one I upgraded my pal to the RPAL just in-case this ever happens.

Actually I believe handguns have been "restricted" (registered) since the 30's. Before my time, but I did get in a few years of hunting when it was legal here in Ontario. Before 911 it was still a simple matter to get a permit to take your guns south and hunt in many states. My only turkey hunt was with a .45 down around Georgia. We stopped at a small campground and when the owner found I knew where Lakefield was he had to show me his 30-30 (copy of a Marlin). One thing let to another and he took me on a legal turkey hunt. He used his scoped 30-30, I used my Colt....:thumbup:

I just noticed that my thread got relocated to the firearms and ammo section. I avoided posting it in this forum because this was for "hunting-related firearms and ammunition topics" so I posted it in the off topic forum. I see that I made the wrong choice and was not sure if handgun target shooting was suppose to go in this forum or not.

Thank you all for your comments. I do not own any handguns but I posted this question to engage forum discussion and to find out your personal experiences. I always know that I can find a good answer if I ask the forum. Thank you all again.

Back a few years the MNR regs just stated that handguns were not admitted accross the border. Now they state that handguns and fully automatic weapons are NOT ALLOWED for hunting in Ontario. Page 21 of the 2010-2011 regs.
As far as I know it is not even legal to fire handguns on your own indoor range in your own home anymore.....

Ya they were registered but I was sure you could take them where ever to shoot it wasn't until C-68 came about that you could only use handguns and restricted rifles at an approved range only?.

I could be wrong on this though.
