Balsam Lake provincial park has a launch I believe....
Last time I was in there it was still a signature site, and you could register right at the Long Lake store, paying a minimal fee for parking. You may be able to go online and get permits there. Not sure if the system has changed or not, but it is definitely first come first serve.
I may head into the highlands this summer for a weekend trip myself.
french river is the best ive been for boat camping.
Hey Guys,
Im thinking of trying out Massasauga park with my son in 2 - 3 weeks (hes 12). We have never done a boat-in camping before, and I have only ever beached my 19' fish & ski boat on a nice sandy beach. Looking at the pictures on the Massasauga park website of there campsites, it looks pretty rocky. Can anyone who has stayed there provide some advice on the best way to beach your boat there?
Thanks
I've only rented a cottage there (for the last 10 or so years in Woods Bay) but I've beached my boat many times for shore lunch. There are lots of islands and camp sites to choose from so take your pick. Each and every one is unique as far as the solid rock goes but there are some that have sandy beaches as well. Some of the rocky sites are tricky to get into but others are a breeze. You'll figure it out. You're not using a fiberglass boat I hope, otherwise you're best to stick with a sandy beach.
