Try and get permission from farmers on your area.
That will be your best bet for wild turkey.
Farmers are generally fed up with them as they flock and destroy some winter wheat in the spring.
Besides the closer you are home the earlier you can get to your hunting area.
Public places are much harder to hunt as the amount of traffic alone will be against you when calling for them.
As one of the "motocross punks", I ride there frequently (every sunday, at least), and have experianced all ends of that forest, and I am also just getting into hunting, to be honest I wouldnt buy a pass for hunting in there, I have seen one deer, a bunch of grouse, and no turkey, I see more wildlife riding up north then i ever do in the ganny, as a newbi hunter, already owning a pass I wouldn't even bother there, I would knock on farmers doors before i went walking through there, when it is open to motorized veihicles
just my opinion, "from the other side", if you will, and I love that forest, but I would suspect the hunting is going to be a big waste of time
Sean
No Problem anytime, I know that forest quite well, and when I said new, I ment it, I'm going for my hunting course this weekend, and pal 2 weeks later, but I have always been into the outdoors, and grown up around hunting, so I dont have any locations as of yet i have a couple freinds who commonly hunt yotes on private land around lindsay, and plan to hunt deer on public land up north (if, after i look into it it is fully legal) and I also plan to go knocking on farmers doors once i get all my S*** in order, wish i could help more, but as of right now im not much help, sorry
Sean.
And if i'm wrong by any means, by anybody else, I too would like to hear others opinion of this area
That is just mine "as a rider, not a hunter" in that particular area
Sean
I talked to a group of guys (maybe 5-6) in the tims in orono the first week of gun hunt for deer this year. Said they've been hunting the ganny for 13 years and shot 3 deer. If thats any indication id start knocking on doors
Thanks for all the replies eveyone. I think im gona save my 60$and put it into more hunting equipment and just keep knocking on doors and if that dont work theres always crownland
+1 - I have rode my trial bike through those woods for 5 years and saw 1 turkey and maybe 3 deer.... tried to hunt there, but private land is way better.
