Bowfishing for Carp near Toronto?

Hamilon harbour and cootes paradise are full of them

Can't bowfish in either of those places, Hamilton has a firearms bylaw.

I don't have the quote from the rules but a bow when bowfishing is considered fishing equipment.

A bow is not considered a firearm, most Bylaws classify it as a weapon or name it specifically in the no discharge bylaw.

I wish this was true in Hamilton, but its not. I actually called the bylaw office a couple of years back, bows are not allowed on Cootes or Burlington bay.

That sucks! Bylaw usually has the final say.

No discharge bylaws can be fought and won in court but as the City of Owen Sound told me, "We will fight it out in court so how much money do you have?" I said "Don't you have a good attitude" and the bylaw official asked me to leave. Federal Government has different interpretation of bowfishing discharge than does local municipalities. Federal government does not include fishing bows because the arrow never leaves the bow and is not a projectile.

Owen Sound has a lot of weird laws. Including their "no kissing in public" law, which I learned first hand when I was a teenager. I am really not surprised the Owen Sound bylaw officer was so discourteous.

Please come and take as many as you can get (discharge by-laws to be observed).

The ultimate honey hole is the Ottawa Street Slip (private property, do not try to gain access - Dofasco/US Steel property), but damn it is loaded with them!
