Rust

Thanks, I'll try these suggestions. Goosesniper, when you say leave them in the vinegar for a while, do you mean like overnight or more like a week or two?

Fish like the smell of WD-40 as well. Real plus.

I always thought wd 40 was a good rust preventor. Don't use it. It does not deter rust. It's contents contain some petroleum and carbon products. I believe the largest component is water. I try to keep,that away from something rusting. Oh yeah that's what I'll do. Gotta store my guns in water. See where that gets ya.

Very serious. It's crap for a rust preventor. It's good for loosening rusted tools and squeaks. I used to work with 4 auto collectors. They would put nuts and bolts and anything big enough they could stuff the the container. I recall them leaving it the for several days. Work it a bit and put it back in. I think it's one of those things like tanning. You can't over salt them. I don't think you can over soak them either. I'm sure there is some stuff on the net about using vinegar in this application.

Wear gloves and protect your eyes. Use pure white vinegar. Not that brown stuff. Only hard core fish and chip eaters like that stuff.

I know you were being serious Goosesniper, and I appreciate your advice on wd40, I have used it preventively on guns after hunting in the rain and I'll reconsider that. I was referring to mukluk's comment about fish liking the smell, which I assume was a joke but I can't be sure. Anyway thanks for your tips on vinegar, I'll give it a try.

(And I guess I'm a hardcore fish and chip eater... though I do keep white vinegar in the house, more for cleaning than for eating.)

WD40... The WD stands for water dispersing ... And it doesn't hurt on your lures when it comes to catching fish.... I'll try and find a link...

White vinegar. I put that on everything. I'm serious. Fish, chips, dressing and gravy loaded down with vinegar. Nuttin like it. Go Ches's.
