Victoria Island, people pull very big channel cats out of there every year. I have also been told that in the fast moving water there are walleye. There is a bit of parting there, but if you are downtown by the parliament it is just a nice little walk away.
Thanks to all who have offered assistance. I will revisit this as it gets closer...I'm excited already!! I may do a day trip to White Lake and try to find the cottage my grandparents had where I spent many a summer.
My trip is a week away, any last minute tips?
Just an update, I got out today, not an ideal time given the bluebird skies we have, from 9 till noon. Hit just south of the Billings Bridge, Hog's Back and Dow's Lake. The only hit I had was a small largie on the west side of Dow's which was quickly released. I was throwing for pike today and didn't get any. Will try later on or tomorrow.
I bike to work along the canal from Mooney's bay (Hog's Back) to the Ottawa river in downtown. I see huge carp almost everyday as i ride by, but I don't know if you want to catch them.
Anything in season is fair game, just lookin' for a little fishing fun to kill some time in Ottawa. Thanks for the info!!
When I was into whitewater kayaking, I used to see people fishing in the rapids beside Bate Island (West side of Ottawa, Ottawa river, off the Champlain Bridge/Island Park Drive). Some were flyfishing with waders on. I don't know what they were fishing for. If you have time, you could check it out. At a minimum, it's a nice area for a picnic.

Musky! Where? I don't fish much, but my neighbour who is a hardcore angler and is always fishing around Ottawa told me that it took him several years before he caught his first musky.
