From my personal experiences, it's not a skin condition that triggers the licking, it a compulsive habit...like kids sucking their thumbs or twirling their hair.
Like what's happening with my Pyrenees...he's compulsivley licking the other dog...does the other dog have an allergy ? does he lick him there because he can't reach it ? :)
We've been to vets over the years and nothing defintive was ever found. Finally one recommened the 'anti-lick' spray and it worked to break the habit. Makes sence.
Thanks for the link. I don't like giving her prednisone, so we (vet) monitor her closely and taper the dose to every other day as soon as the meds take effect. The itching drives her crazy....She has been off the meds for a week or so, and it has settled down now.Quote:
