sometimes your permit may stipulate other conditions as well. Are said we could not cut standing tree's even if they are dead. It also said we could not use ATV's, or trucks to haul the wood out. I'm guessing to ensure you don't tear up the land.

I have had a few buddies that purchased fuel wood permits over the years. Works out to about $8/bush cord. In each case they were cutting 1/2ton loads for their own use and never had anyone from the MNR count the cords they cut...
When we would camp on Crown and just needed campfire wood we never bothered as it would involve a days trip to get the permit. We were never questioned by game wardens.....
In my case, more like $4/face, plus the gas and so on. I never counted I just take as much as I can because if I don't it will rot there. Yesterday I went for partridge where I get my fire wood, I found pils of hardwood logs rotten in an old log yard, I guess the logger couldn't get it all before the winter and it wasn't worth it to come back for it the next year.
also, last year in November, the loggers cut a bunch of 14" hardwood trees along the trail so the trails dry faster after the snow melt, that was a bonus for me, easy to load, to spilt and to dry. I'm not complaining about paying so little.
It appears that some districts are enforcing the act with a little more enthusiasm than others. In Sudbury the MNR is charging those who are picking up tops and culls from cutovers. This is wood that has already been paid for by the companies through stumpage fees. It is also the very same wood that the companies will bulldoze into piles in the late fall and burn to clear the site for future plantings.
Can't get much more petty than that.
Some things never cease to amaze me here . What is going to happen when all with common sense pass on or is there an app needed for that too ? Yup this ol trapper shaking his head again .

What does common sense have to do with the situation? It's government......
years ago my hometown in the GTA built a new launch ramp and parking lot.....You know, one of those big concrete things with no moving parts...The old ramp was free to use, but they could not open the new one until they had the user fees figured out. This took about 8 months during which the ramp sat with a barricade so it could not be used. As soon as the fees were in place, they bulldozed the old gravel ramp and left it sitting...
I deal with Sudbury as well. We wanted to cut down a big old pine that was rotting and threatening to fall on our LUP parking lot. They wanted us to pay a stumpage fee to cut it down. I told the guy when I get around to coming into Sudbury I'll stop in the office and pay.......
From that link: "You need a licence to use wood from Crown land to generate heat for your own personal use (e.g., furnace, woodstove, campfire)." It sounds like you need a permit regardless of whether you are going to burn it right there or if you are hauling it away.
they logged oak and beech at the end of my road 2 years ago... they left 100's of cords of wood just from the tops and crooked trees that wouldnt make good logs... i kept trying to get a permit to cut it for myself, but they wouldnt give me one... well this guy down the road starts taking a tractor back clearing trails and hauling it out, has taken i dont know how many cords out, but id say at least 70 ir 80 face cord now... finally one day i see some conservation officers coming out of there with him behind them on his tractor... im like.. justice haha... next day i see him going back in again, wow thats balzy lol i went and talked to him one day and asked him about it... turns out he got stuck back there, the conservation officers pulled him out and told him to make sure he only cuts the trees on the ground... WTF... 2 years of me trying to do it right, and they just help this guy out... grr...
