Fur garments

Well, of course I wear a fur hat if the weather calls for it. My wife has one, which she rarely wears, and so do some friends. The only women I see in the city wearing fur are all of the same ethnic group and about the same age.
One of the things, I became cautious of is recycled/old material and obviously poor craftsmanship. I have no problem with cottage-industry manufacturing, but I lost contact with my previous fur-tailor since he past down his business and have not found a replacement(not really looked for either). The stuff I bought lately was of moderate quality, and I was shocked how much a friend paid for a fur hat lately at a big store.

I am interested as well as I would love some locally procured and made fur products but as far as pricepoint I am not sure where to start. Say a well made beaver hat between 225 to 275 may be reasonable or mitts from beaver, muskrat, or coyote around 150 to 200.. I would love to see some pics of the fur garments you guys have ,especially the gauntlets you described Species.

I have a beaver police style hat I bought on the Internet....same site as mentioned earlier on Preditor Quest. It's the warmest hat I've ever had. Sure beats our old issued winter fake fur hats !!!

Beaver hats are incredibly warm. Only wear mine when ice fishing and even then you can actually sweat in them.

Got a coon skin hat complete with the tail. It's too hot even on the coldest days if you are doing anything other than sitting around.
Great for late season deer sitting in a stand though.

Actually, the hunter orange regulations made me more than once to choose an (orange) fleece tuque over my (preferred) fur hat. Rules aside, there are some places where I don't want to be mistaken for a fury creature...

Yup... fur hat for me, wife and boy. Fur gloves for the wife. I expect that somewhere between $50-$75 is a good start point.

I need a pair of new mittens; warm and low cost; i.e. not going to go to town with them...
I used to have a pair of mittens that were just the fur inside/meat side outside (chemically tanned) and stitched together (over the wall). Looked terrible, were warm, super affordable and totally eco-friendly ;-)
Anyone know who would sell something like that?

I ice fished at Fort Francis with a fellow that had a pair of polar bear mitts that went up to his elbow.....those were a great pair of mitts !!

I would, I actually made a pair of mitts back when I was about 12 that hat rabbit fur inside, softest mitts every.

The problem is that guys like you get nothing for it and we have to pay to the nines for it. I would support the industry but the costs at this point in time are insane. I am still trying to find a way of getting seal meat but I guess there is no importing to Ontario unless you are a high end restaurant.
