The reality is a registry doesn't have to cost $ billions. The unions are the ones who force the creation of duplicate administration. They have health care databases and vehicle registration databases. They could attach to those systems without having to create an entire new layer of civil servants. But even that is not free and Quebec is working hard to balance it's budget. In fact instead of just doing photo ops with Couillard, Wynne should take notes.
Why would Harper do that? That would be lying and two faced to anybody that voted for him on the premise of doing away with registry. He would lose more votes than he would gain. Believe me anyone wanting the registry or happy to save it would never vote for Harper anyway. These same people would be the boy turdough or angry Tom supporters. Stick to your guns Stevie. To be honest, my first reaction to the decision was joy and relief at the decision. But in the presence of such a blatant politically motivated (dishonorable) move the PM needs an option. I am more concerned about having the Liberals as the next federal government than I am concerned about Quebec hunters having to report firearms purchases. Common sense and facts aren't going to remedy this. The collective psychy is pure emotion and therefore appeasement is warranted.
Saw a blip this morning.
Since the Oct/Nov (can anyone say ISIS and an attack on parliament) JT is showing a continued slide in polling, that's "telling". Hes literally fallen...quite flat since Sept 2014...The honeymoon and blush is over now that people may actually have to "cast a vote" soon. The biggest surprise or perhaps the thing to watch is the NDPs gaining. They are gaining and JT slipping.
While all polling needs to be taken with salt. The demographics are sort of telling here.

So on the topic of GC and the registry. Not sure if its really hurting Harper in Que. But at least right now it looks as though Que may go to the NDP again.
