HERE'S A QUESTION FOR YA!

How long do you think the Quebec system will stay as it is (especially for non-residents) with the sudden huge influx of hunters from Ontario?

Do you think they will stand idly by and allow an overharvest to their moose?

I have quite a few friends already talking of Quebec.

I'd like to have a toll booth from Ontario into Quebec just during their moose hunt.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Ontario gov't / MNR doesn't set up a tax of some sort for game coming back into Ontario!

This is not an infinite resource.

Can't answer that, but all I know is that our group of 4 hunters will be buying licenses over the counter and with 4 hunters we can harvest 2 moose and they can be bulls, cows or calves. No party hunting there and they do enforce it so if we kill a moose then 2 hunters become camp cooks and dishwashers or they can always buy small game licenses.

Some ZECs require more than 2 tags per moose (3 or 4) - that's how they'll handle it. Hunts alternate by year - bulls only one year, bulls,cows,calves the next.

QC MNR is run by practical people. If the demand is too great, the price will go up. I hunted QC in 2010, I think it was. moose license and ZEC license were about $800 IIRC. The game management within the ZEC is done by ZEC stakeholders.

We will be hunting on the edge of a Zec but not in it. When I was a kid growing up in Quebec my first Zec membership only cost $20 and allowed access to all Zecs. Things have changed big time. Guess that makes me very old.

Did everybody remember to apply for moose tags?
