I believe Harper generally has the right idea about the economics of the country.
There's a few things that I perceive are issues though, it would be good to get some supportive evidence to put my mind at ease on these issues:
- Harper has been labelled by some a "bully", who pushes his agenda through. That would cause concern in regards to democracy, and whether my representative in parlaiment is really voting for me, or for Harper.
- The whole revoke citizenship thing - does that only apply to people who carry dual citizenship, and are not Canadian by birth right? I don't see how you could revoke citizenship of a person who was born in Canada. I think you can revoke their rights as a citizen, as they do with prisoners, but not their citizenship (this would make them a non-citizen in any country).
- Harper has been viewed to reduce help to those in need. Look at applications by refugees. People need help, and one of our values has always been that. Has that changed?
- Also look at the guy recently freed from Egypt. Canadian government apparently did very little to help. If some government around the world takes advantage of us, are we not going to get support from the Canadian government???
- Bill C-51. That seems to have gone against our rights. I understand the purpose, but this power in the hands of the wrong people (corrupt government officials, corrupt police, etc) can be used to extort people, victimize the innocent, etc. Why was this pushed through parliament so quickly? Isn't there better wording that would respect people's rights to an opinion, rights to privacy, etc.?
1) If you don't have a strong leader who puts the reigns to them think about the crowd the Conservatives have, centre to libertarian, as for being a bully just compare him to Justin for example. Justin has said you must agree with manmade global warming and be pro-abortion to even be a candidate and there are several examples above where candidates were blackballed, dates changed etc. and the Liberals are being sued, even though Justin promised several times open nominations. No there needs to be discipline within every organization or it is just a mob... sort of like the NDP, no real leader, rule by mob. There are alot of idiots out the that like calling it bullying, probably self employed writers mostly because if you just do your own thing and ignore the leadership at work you deserve you butt fired.Quote:

4) He was a charged criminal and it was brought up several times but let's put it the other way, the guy that just lost his citizenship in Canada that was in the Toronto 18, do you think Jordan should decide if he is persecuted and charged? The best solution was to put pressure and observe the proceedings of the trial it seemed to me, he wasn't being tortured or facing a death sentence and there was clearly the issue of what if the gov't was correct.
5) The bill was out for months, the Liberals agreed to it, there were revisions...not a rush job it seems to even though I can see some misuse. C-51 If we assume that Canada will remain a democracy that likes freedoms then the issues about C-51 seem tiny as compared to Justin talking about changes to the CSE. Which is worse, a gov't official having the ability to take down something advocating violence on a webpage (or any of the other items in there) or an organization that could spy on all your internet and access your e-mail, posts on web pages, the pages you go to if they were given approval. Imagine how easy it would be to monitor all RPAL owners or even PAL owners. Then the difference becomes someone advocating trying to do a Guy Fawkes on Ottawa and someone saying Justin is an idiot and need a good swift kick in the butt... both are threats (one in reality, one with no intention of actually doing) in that wonderful legal limbo reality and if a gov't with the power to monitor everything suddenly has the power to do it and a leader like Justin..... that should p. you o. and scare you some!

I'll take a stab at answering your questions as best I can. First,about the "bully" thing,I call it strong leadership. The great downfall of governments is when individuals try to hijack party policy. There's no room for "crusaders" or miscreants. Every party in government has a a party "whip". It's his/her job to keep the minions "toeing the party line",meaning the ruling party's official agenda and policy. A classic example of this was during the gun control vote where the NDP pulled their dissenting MP's into line,despite tremendous pressure and very clear directives from their constituents. Bill C-51 (without getting into a long,drawn-out,nitpicky,useless discussion with the Liberals on this forum) has many systems of "checks and balances" built in to stop political abuse. It's quite apparent that some civil liberties needed to be slightly modified to enable law enforcement use of investigative techniques to combat terrorism in Canada and allied countries abroad. Nothing is ever done in a vacuum or dark hole. There is always public accountability and oversight at every level. Liberals would have us believe that this legislation completely destroys civil liberties,even though they voted with the Conservatives in the last session of Parliament. Typically,both The Libs and NDP are trying to suck and blow at the same time.

Everything I look at talks about what will happen with a Liberal or NDP gov't, higher taxes, more debt, more corruption (already seen Gagnier and Constituency offices)... but someone pointed out an implication I hadn't thought very deep about.
