Jobbers, I couldn't agree with you more regarding that attribute in too many current GSPs. There is a local breeder that produces exactly that - wonderful working GSPs that are very well put-together, that aren't off-the-wall 24/7, don't have that incessant whine, aren't barkaholics, aren't air-heads around children or other dogs.
One female from this breeder just left hear at just over 1 year of age that is completely steady to wing, shot and fall. She handles wonderfully - no hacking, whistles, constant redirection with great team-like co-operation. She also retrieves right to hand from land and water. She just loves other dogs. She is an adorable pet in the home with young children and is poetry in motion in the field! She's an absolute jewel.
