Good point Mark. If it was just her hearing I would go with that but she still tries to act like a pup then pays dearly for her relentless work ethic. It can take days for her to recover. Her eyes aren't great either but of course, her nose is flawless.
I would really have a hard time if I was to lose her in northern Ontario where she might never return.
As I said, I will pick the hunting venues she and I can still enjoy but I'm not taking chances with her. Just not worth it.
I have been lucky with most all of my dogs but losing this one is going to be tough....really tough.

I just returned from a duck hunt in Quebec with a close friend who had 3 Chesapeakes. Two days before our hunt he had to put down his 12yr old female. She was an amazing dog in her prime. I dread the day that it's my turn to have to do the right thing.
