Hog hunts

I arrived around 9 AM, i introdused my self, the guide asked me what type of firearm i would like to use.
He asked me to wait until he gets things organized.
Then he proceded to bring this 4X4 on steroids around the corner, and one hound.
We loaded up on the vehicle and started our drive out to the hunting ground.
We come around one corner and he looks at me and says hog up at dance line, you want that one ?
I loked at the time it was now 11 AM and about 30 degrees and getting hotter.
I said yes i would take him.
Took my shot down he went.
We loaded him up took him to the cleaning station where he cleaned him out and cut him in portions that i asked for.
Packed the cooler and had a great rib dinner that night.
Yes i would go back there.
Make sure you bring a cooler big enough and ice if you are taking the meat.

I crossed last year with 4 rifles and found the process quite simple. It took about 10 minutes to fill out the form and fax it to ATF. They e-mailed me the permit in pdf form 48 hours later. Printed it and presented it with my passport at the border and crossed with no problem at all. They did not even ask to see the rifles or ammo.

Perhaps others have had different experiences but for the 10 minutes of work on my end it was worth it to have my own rifles.

Species8472, I did not realize you can receive it back that soon. The instruction sheet with the form says that the processing takes 8-10 WEEKS.
So, after reading your post yesterday, I purchased an Alaska SG licence online for $20, printed it out and faxed it with the 2 copiers of the ATF form.
(BTW, the licence DOES NOT have to be from the state where you are going)
Keeping my fingers crossed that it arrives back before I leave for the trip this Saturday... (If not, it is still good for 1 year, so I can use it for a later trip if I decide to go again)

There is also a phone number. Try calling them on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning and explaining your situation and they may turn turn it around by the end of the day friday. Good luck.

I did call them a few minutes ago and was told that there is a fairly large backup in the applications right now (being the beginning of the year and everybody applying for their "annual" permit), so there is no way to speed up my individual case - but I should receive the approved form in a few weeks.
(By the way, the officer also told me that their fax number indicated in the instructions for the form does not always work, so if somebody is planning to fax in their application, also try to use 304-616-4551 instead of the indicated -4554 number)

My wife has made it clear she intends to sleep most the time we are away. Think I am going to pack my bow just in case :)

This seems to be the most decent one with no fenced in and/or raised pigs. They also got good reviews (check out their Facebook page and YouTube). I hope I choose well - I will report back after the hunt.
