This is a standard shot shell, not an XR correct? Great video, and your point is taken about the wad obscuring most of what I was talking about seeing. I am just wondering about when/how that polymer fractures and disintegrates. This is purely out of interest.Quote:

The only difference is that one of them use a bottle cap like piece of plastic at the base of the shot cup and one of them uses a felt cap at the base of the shot cup. I would think that because the shot is riding inside a wad cup there would be minimum movement while it's moving thru the barrel, so I'm not sure that if there was a resin holding them that it would make difference...at least not until the wad cup is pulled away...once it's left the barrel.Quote:

It is not a hard resin as it was breaking in my hand as I took apart the shell but it almost looked like it was a clear brittle resin.

Here you can see the shot cup (the wad) and the piece of felt on the underside of the wad. Behind the felt patch was a plastic seal that kept the powder in the head of the shell.

With part of the wad shot cup removed you can see more of this resin - it goes all the way to the bottom of the wad and I might say the quality was very good (very consistent).

But does it do anything? The shot looks like it was pretty packed in there and little room for movement anyway.
Thanks so much for posting this John, kudos to your method and great results! I finally went out for the second time this past saturday and put some WIN Long Beard XL 3" #5s through my 535 and am finally happy with the results @ 30 yards. The second closest was Remington Nitro 3" #5 - which I'll go with when I'm out. I tried Hornady Heavy Magnum 3" #5 ...but not for anything past 20 yrds on the ground (just a mess with zero consistency).
