Tick prevention yet?

Just received a reply from my vet in the states and asked if she carries Seresto and they do not. They carry another flea and tick collar called Scalibor for a 6 month protection at $49.00 U.S I may try that. The TSC in the U.S is charging $59.00 for the Seresto collar. Liberty flea and tick liquid application is on sale for $9.99 and is similar to Advantix II but the Liberty 50 star rating is very low. My brother used it on his labs with success. Will treat the dogs with ivomec this summer as well much cheaper than heartguard.

You can wait till June for Heartgard . The mosquito is in larva stage till June. ( Had a chat with my vet about this the other day.) You can save yourself some money.

Although a little more money have heard nothing but extremely good things about the Seresto collar. If I was going to go with a collar this would be the one (very positive reports from those training and trailing on both sides of the border ... pro and amateur alike)

PS..for the small cost of ivermectin, mine receive it 12 months.
...Spoke with Bayer(makers of Seresto) Canada recently, they have an application pending here in Canada to retail the collar.

YD...you'll have to explain to me how both products use the same active ingredient, but one is not as good as the other :whacked:.

Infact Liberty 50 uses 50% Permethrin and Advantix is only 44%...



I've been using Liberty 50 for many years and have never had fleas of ticks on my dogs and they are free range farm dogs.

Our (city) vet has us on revolution but they won't sell us year round doses so we "have to" do the heart worm test every spring. ... We'd like to just use something year round and be able to source it ourselves. We'd prefer drops or pills not collars. Any suggestions on what to use and where to get it?

FYI revolution doesn't protect against black legged/deer ticks. In my experience with the stuff it doesn't work on common dog ticks either. Pulled more than a few fully engorged dog ticks off.

I'm new at this but this year I split the meds.
Separate heart worm meds and Bravecto for flea and tick.
This way I can do flea and tick year round and heart worm starting in June.

Well that's no good.... Not a ton of ticks where we are but I did have to pull one off of our mutt last spring because we were out before starting the rev again. That was the only time I've had to deal with a tick so not sure if the Rev was working previous years or he just didn't find one.

Not at all, the only option we've been given was revolution so I'm just curious as to other options. My understanding was that if you give revolution year-round you never have to worry about heart worm, but if you stop at some point you must test before restarting.

That's right!

A vet that only carries Revolution ??? I'd be looking for a new vet if it were me Rugger.

All year use of Revolution may mean no blood check before using Heartgard in June , but the chances of lyme disease from deer ticks is huge. I want that blood check for heartworms every year, as Heartgard can kill your dog if those worms are present already. Not a chance I want to take ; only takes one mosquito.
