Well I hear you all but consider this - the thief broke the law by stealing the car but the cops broke the law by beating the thief - two wrongs don't make a right - also can you believe the cops when they say that the guy tried to run over a cop considering that a good 95% of the videos on youtube show a cop telling lies - a cop's job is to apprehend the criminal not to administer punishment - on the news today there is a similar case in Massachusetts where the cops beat some guy that they chased - if this wasn't an issue I don't think there would be such a ground swell reaction to the way cops treat citizens
Sure there are many good cops but often these don't help clear their ranks of the thugs - they stick together even when it is obvious that a cop over stepped the rights of a citizen - often times a simple traffic stop turns violent when a citizen attempts to exercise his rights and the cop doesn't like that -
I remember about a year or so ago there was an incident in Canada where a RMCP stopped a guy because someone had called the cops a guy was shooting at a golf course to scare away the geese - he had permission to go that - the cop stops the guy orders the guy out of the car and makes him knee down on the ground - then approaches the guy and kicks him in the face - it was all captured on film - I often wonder what happened to the cop - citizens should not put up with this kind of behavior - cop or no cop
A "cop" is a paid and authorized agent of the state and represents the state in all actions good or bad.
As such they should conduct themselves appropriately based on the above fact or face consequences.
Problem is some people are not cut out for LE nor do they train well.
Others may be decent cops but become abusive overtime and /or they are tolerated/rewarded in subtle ways by peers.
In my experience, you get the policing that reflects the type of crime in that PA. Meaning the "escalated" form of policing is in proportion to everyday life experiences of the OA or beat that the cop works. If he always is under lethal threat from thugs/dope dealers/and gangs he is usually way more likely to arrest with quick physical intervention.
Unfortunately that can sometimes be carried outside of that "high crime risk" area onto less threatening and less violent suspects.
The political climate plays a HUGE part also. Obama has caused many of the issues you see with his Trayvon Martin comments and his interference with due process in Ferguson et al. LE feel vastly unsupported in an extremely difficult job.
War has been declared on US Police as more favoritism is shown to public and less benefit of the doubt to Police and whole City Departments.

Problems in Human Resources/recruiting have arisen from hiring requirements that need to reflect a certain societal demographic in certain communities resulting in otherwise unqualified indivduals being hired who,quite clearly,usually apparent from the outset,shouldn't have been.Quote:
