[COLOR=#333333]Always try to wear polarized glasses. It will help walking in the dense bush if any. Also I would try to stay further back from the pools and cast upstream to see if anything darts out. The art of being a Ninja does work on creeks. The colder the water the higher percentage of fish in the area. Also looks for deeper pools, even if it’s a smaller pool you will find pockets and undercuts. Hope this helps
There are numerous ways to fish for them. Not sure why some don't think flies will work. You can "fly fish" much the same as anything else anywhere in water column. In tight streams roll cast and bow shots (grab the fly like its an arrow, pull pack and release). My best day ever was way way back in 1976. No worms, couldn't find some grubs, went to the campsite, grabbed a couple strips of moms bacon and put two inch pieces on the hook. The brookies went nuts for it, proving everyone/thing loves bacon. Small Mepps, as someone mentioned are also very good.
However, and this can't be stressed enough.
Please, please consider just scouting streams now. Hold off fishing for them until mid Sept. Not sure where you are looking, but soooooooooo many areas of the province are reporting drought conditions and low lake levels, and streams that are drying up. Some areas are putting in water restrictions because wells and aquifers are so low. Thats not good news where it all begins, at the head waters.
The month of July was a record in Ontario (hottest ever). Water temps of 74 are lethal for Brook Trout and even if the temps are a below, the warmer water, depleted oxygen has them stressed as is.
