We've had 3 Britts, a Golden Retriever, a Yellow Lab and a GSP over the years. Absorbine Show Sheen really works to make the burrs come out easier, but never spray it on the dog when you are in the house. It sure makes the floor slippery. I use a comb to slide the burrs out of the hair.

Nodding beggarticks (Bidens cernua L,) are the worst. I have heard using olive oil helps to take them out but in my experience you just need to sit down on the porch with a brush and a beer. It took me several hours spread over two or three days to get all these out.

x2...and a good 'Curry' comb works well...I have long haired dogs and this combination makes that task easier for the dog, a lot less pulling.Quote:

The downside to an upland dog with a short coat that doesn't collect burrs is beat up raw skin, cut up eyelids, sore paws, raw chest.
Picking burrs sucks but their coat really does protect them.
I carry a steel comb in my vest. My wirehair picks up the odd tangle but knows to just walk over and I take care of it right there. My DD has a bit harsher coat and doesn't pick up as much debris. Get your dog used to being groomed in the field or on the tailgate and you will be happy you did. I tried that mane and tail stuff but it was so strongly perfumed, I thing it affected the dogs scenting ability. Just brush him hard and all that soft hair will pull out. You will be left with a tough ol beard.
furminator works on my dogs, you can get knock off from aliexpress etc for $6-8
next time get a dog with normal coat ;)
Furminator doesn't work as well as the comb with the cutting blade incorporated into it. PetSmart has this and its fantastic.
