I've done a hearty venison burger soup for my camp dinner and it was well-received. I think that the recipe came from an old OOD article but I changed it a bit:
1 lb venison burger
46 OZ bottle of V8 vegetable cocktail
28 OZ can of whole tomatoes. Crush by hand before adding.
1 large red onion chopped
2 bay leaves
1 tbsp worchestershire sause
1/2 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1 tsp pepper (or to taste)
4 large potatoes cubed
3 med carrots sliced
3-4 stalks celery sliced thinly
1 med green bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces
1 med red pepper cut into 1 inch pieces
1 tsp minced garlic (or to taste)
1/2 can of chick peas
Cook in a large pot until everything softens up, freeze and thaw out to serve at camp with buns. Double the recipe for the hunting camp.
