Great buck! Congrats!
Well done!
Way to go C. A really nice buck and now I know where you've been spending your time. Lol
Wow! What a buck, congrats!
Just to add a bit of information to the hunt, I have been a mentor for my son and he finally was able to book a week off of work to participate in the shotgun hunt this year. Early scouting showed an area where a good size buck was actively rubbing and scrapping so we set up a tree stand for an ambush and sure enough a few days into the week he shot a beautiful 9 pointer that is now at the taxidermist. His first big buck!
Fast forward to this week and further scouting revealed that another big buck had come in to replace the "deerly" departed one (pun intended) and tend the does. Same setup and ambush. Mine dropped barely 50 yards from where he shot his deer.
Moral of the story is because a buck has been taken from an area does not preclude the fact that another one will eventually come in and replace him especially when there are still does in estrous.
My hunting buddy also shot a big buck in the opening shotgun season as well with an ML of all things in which he prefers to hunt with and has taken 7 consecutive bucks over the years. One shot / one kill.
Final tally this year was 3 guys = 2 X 10 pointers and 1 nine pointer as big as the other two. Simply missing a brow tine.
None of us had an antlerless tag.
Sorry impact, I missed this thread originally...congrats on the success. Must be nice to be with son on his first "trophy' buck. A memory that will not fade with time.
Yes bucks move freely in the wild and will fill a void when one opens. See it all the time on the trail cams that are left out after the main hunts have finished. New faces start to show up.
Congratulations. Very nice deer
Awesome buck! Congrats
A great looking rack. Congratulations.
Sounds like a banner year. Congrats on some serious whitetails and thanks for filling in some details.
