Great advice already given but I will add my 2 cents for what its worth. I suggest also buying a good .22 with decent optics as nothing will hone your shooting skills more than lots of trigger time with a .22 .

Thanks Big Jack. All great advise indeed. You're right, I think i'm going to focus on 500 yards range for big game and work on my consistency.
Reloading was absolutely on my list. I would be happy with any help i could get as a starting point. Literature? A recommended reloading kit (with good value for the $$$)?

Which caliber did you settle on?
i would stay away from the kits. I set up a few guys now and it pays to buy used. Becoming a member on CGN is a good start and usually there are some deals to be had.
