Teaching respect is responsible parenting. Locking guns up to prevent children from getting to them is responsible gun ownership.

30 years ago no one had gun safes. Guns were kept in closets all across the country. How many kids shot anyone

Very good point Dutch' - and another thing - kids grew up watching cowboy movies and the first thing a kid wanted for Christmas was a cap gun with a hostler - society has gone down the tubes because it had lost its moral soul - every kid in school has a pocket knife in his pocket and when old enough got a BB gun - it ain't the guns - its the people - and if it ain't guns then it is something else - like the guy out in CA who has set off 5 bombs so far killing a couple people - and as far as the boggy man - come down here and see what is happening - a person needs to be prepared - a boy scout motto - I still say that if some disaster happens all hell will break loose -

There is a reason we live up here.

In Austin Texas, there is also some "crazy person " leaving package bombs around, now he is using trip wired bombs along sidewalks .
Two people killed , others injured, 5 bombs in 19 days.
What a crazy world down there.

I wonder , if the parents of that 9 year old boy will be charged with anything ? possibly " criminal negligence causing death ".

It is not illegal to leave the gun loaded and in the drawer, so probably not, they will say it was a horrible accident with no charges laid to anyone.
