Everyone has their preference but for me If Dove hunting as steel is the only option like something in a 6.
If pigeons are in the mix like to have some #4 steel available as find them more shot resistant than doves. Now although lead can be used on pigeons swapping in and out is a hassle for me.
When doves are off the table than still like a heavy #4 lead for pigeons.

I don't have problems knocking pigeons down witb 7, 8, or 9 in lead and 6 and 7 steel .

Uhmmm saw a lot of lead fly didn't see many hit the ground save the one that sailed across the field. As I said every one has their preference mine is a bit heavier.

Got my shotgun fitted now... My comb was too high, and the front of my cheek piece was higher then the rear.

Shot a goose a while back, well aiming at the one about "TWO" feet above and three closer then the one I hit. I took feathers off the bottom of the chest of the one I was aiming at, and nailed the other in the head, neck and chest.

Work in Mississauga, live in London, and the inlaws are in Kingsville. Only problem I have is scouting and finding farms/fields to shoot over. I was only home 2 or 3 days a month so that did not help. Trying be free every weekend now, so hope to do some scouting. There has got to be a few places to shoot without scaring the farmers wife.

I scouted out that way a couple years ago, but did not have much luck finding places I could hunt. Found lots of places with birds, but either they were around mills in town, or farmer acted like I was asking to eat out of the trash bin.

I may not have gotten as far out as were you live though.
