I have switched to Scorpyd from Excalibur. Mainly because I wanted more speed but could no longer handle the high draw weight of my my Micro 355 (280#). I used the crank for a bit but found it to be a pain to lug around. The Scorpyd has a 130# draw weight but with the rope cocker it's only 65#. The width cocked is 9.5" ATA.It shoots a 400gr arrow 400fps. The Micro 355 was actually 335fps with a 400gr arrow. I hunt open fields where shots out to 50yards are common. 50yards is my personal max distance with the bow & I wanted a bow that has minimal drop out to 50 & the arrow is there before the deer can move. I still have a re-curve as a back-up but it's going to be for sale soon because I probably wont need it,,,lol
The story behind this hunt.
Waited for the perfect west wind for this ladder stand. Sunday looked to be about perfect so I made the 1.5hr journey to my stand from my house.
Arrived & was in my stand @ 715am. Didn't bump any deer on the way in! :)
At 8:00am this buck came down the well worn game trail that is along the outside of the woods.
I got in position to stop him for a broadside shot & I let a doe bleat. he stopped perfectly broadside @ around 15yards. I put the arrow in the sweet spot. He didn't run away. Just looked up and kept walking. Stopped just behind my stand went in the woods & dropped 20 yards behind my stand.
I am blessed to have permission on a great deer property. Usually see deer on every sit & with the additional deer seal offered to us this year I was finally able to bow hunt there again. This was my third sit and the first in this ladder stand. It was bitter sweet to fill my seal but with the long drive & gun season coming I didn't hesitate to fill my seal when the opportunity presented was at hand.
I will be in the black-powder controlled hunt next week with 3 good friends. Should be a great week to top up the freezer!
Cheers & good luck to those that hit the woods this season... :)
Looks like a great bow. I have always liked how compact the 'reversed' limbs look (better out of blinds etc). Great buck!
Nice job!
Congrats on the buck Jeff! Bow looks nice
