Data plans

We deal with koodoo and pay 187 a month for 3 phones. Wife has 10 g I have 5 and there is a few hundred mb on the kids. Unlimited calling and text on all 3 , I love my Samsungs kids on the I phone and wife has the new Huawei. But we have been with them for 10 years they have been good .

If you pay the phone outright it will be Cheaper . However the way I go through them we just add them to the tab. If not I could pay thousands a year on phones lol.
I have even broke 2 in a 24hrs,well one took a dive in the lake then broke the screen on the other.

Here is a small stack over the past few years some will never be seen again in the lakes lol. Some are just not in the pic. You know, this whole concept of phones, data, TV, Internet, etc costs a ridiculous amount! Who, in their right mind a few short years ago, would have dreamed we'd be paying 2 to 4 thousand dollars year for this?
Makes me shake my head at the lunacy of what we've all become?

But you know that we need them, without them we will not know what is going on instantly. How will I ever find out what my sister-in-law is having for dinner if it wasn't for Facebook? How will I know where my wife, son, friends or family are if I am not following them....It's a good way to spend $3000, $4000 or $5,000 a year.


We have been brained washed (needs vs wants) I am guilty of it too... :(

I try my best to resist, I've never paid for cable, and try to do what my parents told me as a kid and "just go outside and do something" the problem is having unlimited information in the palm of your hand is just so convenient. Just think of what it's replaced, there's no more Perly's map book in my glove box and I haven't stepped foot in a library since high school. It gives you the ability to instantly call BS on any story somebody is trying to sell you. And most importantly it gives you instant contact if you are ever in trouble.

That's worth the money to me.

You forgot about the music that's another 170 bucks a year for spotify. Netflix is going up we have a premium account on that and Amazon prime just came out that's another 90 a year [emoji6]

I pay $240 (as the primary plan holder, I pay $100 for mine, $70 for wife, $50 for Daughter) a month for 3 phones and share 2G of data with wife and me, our 15 yrs daughters data is HARD disabled from Rogers (only wifi). The wife and I are going to explore other providers over the holidays. We get hosed here in Canada for internet and phones because of no competition from CRTC. Even the FIDO's and Freedoms plans are owned by the Big Three. Both my wife and I need extended coverage when traveling, instead of paying for "out of area" roaming charges as with Freedom and Wind. Our daughter has one month left on contract and we going to move her Freedom ($50.00), as it has unlimited data (which is not true, they throttle you down at certain limits = false advertising). When we travel we will just enable the "only service provider", to make sure we don't incur extra charges.

Customer retention does work and we use it often, but really the problem is no competition in Canada. The CRTC must go.

There's a difference between want and need, a lot of people think they're important therefore they want a phone with a bunch of data, etc, when in fact they're far less important than they think and don't need it. I've got a pay as you go, pay $15 a month for calling, text, no data. I have a computer at home for that. 40 years ago no one had cell phones and we all got along just fine.

No data plan here. I'm still going on a plan from 2010 for my wife and I. If I want new phones I have to take a new plan and there are no plans that exist with my provider that don't have data.

A few months ago I was looking to get us new phones and I was on with loyalty (retention) for well over an hour. The guy finally said the best he could do for me was $70/month more than I pay now for 2 new phones and their basic plan. He suggested that I keep my plan as long as possible and just keep buying unlocked or used phones.

I rarely ever find myself wishing I had data. WiFi is everywhere now and if I want to download a few pictures from people a month the cost is minimal. We pay around $90/month taxes in for 2 phones with unlimited texts, unlimited talk between each other, 250 anytime talk minutes and free evenings. When the kids need phones things will change but I have no reason to now.

I'd be willing to bet that you guys talking down to those of us that do have data plans, have home Internet service with a gazillion Gb of data at your finger tips?
Try living without service and come back and let us know how that works out for you?

Nope no gazilion here, between the wife and I, we use less than 30g a month, during the summer it's much lower.
