So anyone else think 3" #5 extended range a bit much for woodcock?
May not have been what they were using but definitely what they were selling. Guess browning don't come in 71/2. Keeping an eye on the fall sales got to get me a case of 7 1/2 this year. Something in a 2 3/4 trap load. more than enough for them.
fwiw My brother in law gave me a box of 20 gauge browning 7.5's for Christmas.
I guess with all the leaves on the trees a heavy shot may help
I've never shot #5's except through a turkey choke, but you'd figure through just about any wing-shooting choke there'd be lots of woodcock sized holes no?
I think I will stick to my 28ga with 3/4 oz of 7.5, plenty for woodcock.Quote:

Although I don't make it a habit with a good dog some days I can make the .410 work.

Woodcock don't need much to knock 'em down......finding them after is the real challenge.
