IMHO, it would make more sense to issue cow tags ( if they are bent on issuing them), that are for a cow OR a calf. Many hunters I know would take the calf.....but I guess that wouldn’t reduce cow/bull ratios....

I just for once want an adult tag....like i said its a lost cause for gun hunt tags where i am....next year i’m applying for bow
I have hunted deer for 36 years in Ontario but have only bought a moose licence every year since 2010.
The "logic" behind issuing moose tags has been just killing me!!!
So, in my humble opinion, they should just completely STOP the moose hunt for 3 years.
If we really want to help the population and give the MNRF a chance to get their act together and perhaps consult some actual hunters(!), and come up with a logical moose hunting system, then I will gladly put moose out of my mind for 3 years. Why is that so hard to do?!
Walleye fishing in Lake Scugog has been fully banned until further notice. If 'A' can be done, then 'B' can also be done by the same authority!
I’ve hunted moose in the NW for 40 yrs or so. You cannot convince me the population has been destroyed. We’ve seen more moose in the past few years than we ever have.
Guys that work in the bush say the same thing. Outfitters I know say the population is down a bit, but nowhere near the lack of moose the MNRF would have us believe. A butcher I know of, had his coolers completely full the opening weekend. The vast majority were untagged.......
I agree still lots of moose....no tags tho? That better change
I dont know....I would hope so, but what if there's 13 guys to a gang....have one tag (cow or calf) and a cow and twin calves steps out....shoot one calf and maybe get 10lbs of meat per person? Or shoot the cow and get 50lbs per person?
Hopefully they would take a calf and let cow and other calf go....I know I would....but cant for the rest of hunters out there....

You shoot the cow you have a 100% chance that the cow does not make more babies and a decent chance the calves do not live through the winter. You shoot a calf and there is a 50% chance you killed a cow that cannot ever make more calves, you shoot only bulls and limit it then no cows are ever killed.
