True GW11, but isn’t the prevailing thought that those influenza victims are mostly people that are more vulnerable to it ? ie elderly and others with lower immunity
Apart from moving to the Yukon and building a log cabin in solitude, I don’t think there is any solid protection for anyone if it takes off.
I'm pretty sure (although I could be wrong) that's also the case with this outbreak, deaths are rare in otherwise healthy people. As was also the case with H1N1 and SARS. You'll always get the odd fatality in someone who seemed otherwise healthy. Usually when it's looked at more closely, these cases turn out to have had an underlying condition that they didn't know they had until they got sick with the virus and further complications ensued.Quote:

Ontario health officials have announced that a “presumptive” case of a new coronavirus has been discovered in Toronto, which, if confirmed, would mark the first instance of the illness in Canada.
In an evening press conference at Queen’s Park, officials said they were made aware of the case Saturday afternoon.
A man in his 50s tested positive for the new virus but secondary testing at Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory will take place to confirm the case.

Canada learned a lot from the SAR's situation.
We are better equipped now to deal with this than before SAR's.
I was involved with the SAR's situation. It was a unknown situation which we quickly responded to an unknown outcome.
We were somewhat lucky.

People should get the FLU shot, while it may protect a healthy person from getting sick for a couple of days what makes the FLU shot so important is protecting the elderly and young and those with compromised immune systems around you. For those the FLU can kill them.Quote:
