Last week I bought some canned food and a few other items. We are not going overboard and are now shopping at the grocery store in the small town near us. Avoiding contact with others. Lots of game meat and fish in the freezer. Using messenger to video chat with relatives.
1) Medical and First Aid ... to suppress fever, cough, decongestants ... not to fight COVID, but to try and prolong need for third party treatment ... because our system isn't going to be able to even test us fast enough. Important to have a thermometer ... as the hospitals don't seem to want to test unless you can prove you have a temperature, preferably a thermometer that is indirect ... so you don't pass it onto anyone else. Also, alcohol, peroxide, hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, goggles/glasses, band aids, etc.
2) Non-perishables and drinks ... flour (with rising agents to make bread), pasta, rice, oatmeal, grains, cereals, sugar, salt, pepper, cured meats (salami) and cheeses (parmesan), preserves (sauces, pickles, peppers), frozen fruits, frozen meats (take out of packaging into ziplocks to save space in freezer), high energy food like peanut butter (check shelf life), chocolate bars, energy bars, canned beans, chips, cookies. Also energy drinks, coffee, cold drinks, wine and beer (a must in my house!). Water, preferably in larger bottles (5 to 10 gallons). Oil, vinegar. These should all be things with at least 1 year shelf life, and stuff that you WILL eat normally/anyhow.
3) Cash on hand. Some may even stash 1 oz silver, 1 gram gold bars. Figure out what you will need in an emergency.
4) Fuel/propane/fire wood, especially if you need to run a generator.
5) Cleaning agents ... hand soap, dish soap, laundry agents, surface cleaners, Lysol spray, wipes, garbage bags. Paper towels, toilet paper, rags.
6) Hardware ... power tools, hand tools, screws, nails, bolts, wood pieces, cables, quick ties, etc.
7) Vehicle ... fluids, oil, compressor, tire pressure gauge.
I probably missed a few things ... but you get the point. Now, this might seem to be over the top, like we are preparing for war ... but here's the catch ... (1) being prepared is being prepared, and (2) probably you already have 80% to 90% of this stuff laying around ... just need to find it. And this final point is probably the most important ... be organized, know where to find everything ... I have a section in my house for each of the above groups.
I doing the same thing I have all my life. Just shop when I need something and do not stock more than a week supply of anything.
This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion .
10,000 deaths world wide is nothing to worry about.
The regular flue kills more than that.

In the US yesterday. While we can’t trust their stats, one came out.
38% of cases are people under 50.
50% of those in ICU are under 65.
While I have never seen convoys of military trucks carting the dead out of cities. I don’t think I’ve heard of a flu season, where half the people in ICU are so young either
