Someone also mentioned using the smaller salt bricks and drilling a hole through them and either running a screw through it into a tree (to keep it off the ground) or running a rope through it and hang it a couple of feet off the ground

and put a big nail through,
and put metal cover on top of it .
The feed stores sell a hanger for those salt licks...designed to mount in a horse stall. The work great mounted to a tree.
They also sell 50lbs bags of loose minerals....the powdered versions of the blocks. At $15 a heck of a better deal and all you are have to do is pour it over dirt or in a hole and once it gets wet it's perfect for deer.
