I'm just reading an article in my local paper about the close to 400 cotton tails that have been dropped off at a local wildlife rehabilitation center lately. That's an incredible number. Sounds like most of them are rescued from neighborhood cats and brought to the center at a cost of approximately $200 for each animal for the duration until release.

So after keeping an eye on the spot and not finding any activity went in today with the trimmer. To my surprise the doe got in and dropped 6 kits. One got scratched but the rest seem untouched. Covered them back up checked on them a bit later all 6 settled down and doing ok.

Population here must be very high here as well. I have at least 2 cottontails in my backyard everyday and I havnt seen one in at least the 5 summers before that. I've hit two with the truck lately too, They dart out in front of you in the dark all the time lol it's like they are trying to commit suicide. Not the brightest animal but I do like seeing them around.
